Dear colleague,
Just a quick share for you today.
I made this one-pager (front and back) for some PD client schools last year but forgot to share it here on the blog. Sharing it now in case you'd like a simplified reference to the core strategies and graphical thinking tools found in my book, The Will to Learn: Cultivating Student Motivation Without Losing Your Own.

Like basically all of my work, these are tools and strategies are paradoxical: simple and deep. I've been plumbing their depths for over a decade now, and I'm still learning new things; at the same time, I can explain a given strategy to someone in no time at all. When I work with a partner school, this makes the PD work tricky — I've got to thread the needle between making a strategy or concept appear simple enough to try but deep enough to stay engaged with. Or in other words, I've just got to make sure that what I'm sharing is true.
Anyways, I hope that cheat sheet is helping to someone. I continue to be teaching and “working the strats” right beside you,

P.S. If your team is wrestling with student motivation this semester, my “Why Do We Have to Do This!?” Mini-Course gives you 10 strategies in under two hours of video. $99 for individuals, or group licenses for your whole faculty start at $499. Learn more here.
