How an 8th Grade Teacher Made an Everest Statement for Reading and Had Her Students Make One for Writing

March 10, 2025 By Dave Stuart Jr. Leave a Comment

Dear colleagues,

Earlier this year, our colleague Mrs. Ariella Kranczer wrote in to me about her clever “I do, you do” implementation of Everest Statements in her eighth grade ELA classroom. Wanted to share it here because it is excellent!

Hi,

Fellow teacher and follower of you. I love what you model and share- thank you!

Just wanted to let you know that while I presented an Everest Statement (and explanation) about reading to my 8th grade ELA class, they worked in pairs to create one for writing. We edited, tweaked and combined and came up with a class-created statement:

Writing is a path of creativity and imagination; one in which every word connects & nourishes. and, at the end, we find ourselves.

We made it into a poster and hung it on the wall. They were so excited to see it- and I was so excited to see their buy-in and passion!

Hope that inspires a few others out there to give Everest Statements a try!

Best,

DSJR
