I found this document very helpful the other day. In its four well-designed pages, the PTA explains the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in high school English Language Arts to parents. My favorite parts are those in which the PTA describes “a sample of the work your child will be doing to become ready for college and career” (2-3). As you know, the CCSS anchor standards in reading, writing, speaking/listening, and language are all aimed at making career and college ready (CCR) graduates, so this is language that CCSS readers will be familiar with.
On this page, you'll find links to PTA documents for each grade level and area of the CCSS. Special thanks to the Tennessee PTA for creating that page of links, Mel Riddile (@PrincipalDiff) for tweeting it, and John Hahola (@NHHSAP) for retweeting it!
