Hofstadter’s Law

February 5, 2026 By Dave Stuart Jr. Leave a Comment

Dear colleague,

Hofstadter's Law is gallows humor: “It always takes longer than expected, even when one takes Hofstadter's Law into account.”

I've been teaching about two decades, and man… Hoftstadter must've been an educator or something.

So: whether it's grading or planning or getting through your emails, I'd better let you get back to the list of things that are taking longer than expected.

Teaching right beside you,

DSJR

P.S. If you or your team are feeling time-poor right now, my Time Management for Teachers Mini-Course gives you 10 practices in under two hours of video. $99 for individuals, or group licenses for your whole faculty start at $499. Learn more here.
