About the author

Lisa Van Gemert is a mild-mannered educator by day, and voracious reader by night. She specializes in the care and educating of gifted youth, and her favorite title is "Ambassador of the Gifted." She shares tips and resources for parents, educators, and even kids at her website giftedguru.com.
She is the author of four books for parents, teachers, and real live gifted people.
A California girl by birth, she now makes her home in Arlington, Texas, where she lives with her Aussie husband, Steven, and their Golden Retriever, Brody. They are frequently visited by their three grown sons and two (precious and longed-for) daughters-in-law.
She's been a teacher, a paralegal, a high school assistant principal, and a full-time mom of her (now grown) three sons, twelve foster children, and two foreign exchange students. In her free time, she loves to read, do genealogy, organize stuff, and volunteer.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 20, 2020This is my second book by this author, and I am so excited to delve in! I have spent some time perusing the book and must say the layout is ideal. The table of contents is very thorough and the book includes large, easy to read font (which is a huge plus for me, as I get daunted easily by some "teaching" methodology books). Best of all, there are tons of visuals and examples on how to execute the concepts. This is key for me, as ideas are only as effective as their implementation. It also appears that the approach will work really well on virtual platforms - given the times we are in, this is essential. I am super excited to start using this book as I plan for this upcoming school year!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 16, 2020As a teacher, it's frustrating when students can regurgitate the definition of a content vocabulary term , but they don't really know the meaning of the word or how to apply it appropriately. This method allows students to go deep into the meaning of a word, and to use and apply it appropriately. I am so glad I bought this book!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 13, 2022I’m really liking the book. It’s research and experience based vocabulary tools.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 23, 2020I am enjoying this book and so are my students. I teach across the grades and find that this book and the resources within are super helpful as I teach students 3rd to 8th in a remote setting. I can transition with ease and have the flexibility to add/subtract the rigor. An added bonus is the instruction on how to build your own concept templates. If you teach English or Reading to elementary kids then this book should definitely be on the top shelf.
