"ReLeah Lent has developed a great framework for helping content area teachers think about their discipline-specific literacies. More important, she has equipped them with tools that allow them to use these literacies to forward content learning. From student-led discussions to reading infographics, This is Disciplinary Literacy brings today’s literacies into content classrooms."
-- NANCY FREY"Content area teachers will be delighted to find their concerns regarding disciplinary literacy finally addressed with discipline specific ways of integrating literacy that will to help all students deepen their content learning. Teachers who’ve struggled with how to integrate literacy into their discipline or who are looking for fresh ideas for increasing literacy in their content area will find classroom ready examples they will be able to use. What I like most about this book is the focus on literacy as a vehicle to enhance learning for all content areas."
-- JAYNE ELLSPERMANN"Acquiring skill in disciplinary literacy is essential for students to become college and career ready. Congratulations on a job well done by ReLeah Lent."

- Reviewed in the United States on January 14, 2019I'm starting to think textbook had no editor lol All jokes aside I'm loving this book so far! I'm an ELA teacher candidate and this was the textbook my professor assigned for our Literacy Within Disciplines course at the masters level. The author does a great job of breaking down the topic so that all the major content areas are touched on and justifying the importance for all teachers to teach their literacy. The only problem I have seen thus far are a few issues in the editing process, which to me at least, is shameful for a book focused on literacy when it's the second paragraph of chapter one. I would still definitely recommend this to any teacher if they want to improve their student's performance because it helps you to think about your reading assignments in a whole new way.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 23, 2023This book was required for my grad class but I think that every teacher no matter grad or subject should be required to read this novel.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 19, 2016This book is revolutionary in its simplicity. Not being a literacy teacher, this book has helped me understand that I can still contribute to the overall literacy of my students while not losing the focus on my particular discipline. Rather, it heightens the focus.
